I keep hearing christian people say that to be gay is not a sin, but to act on this intrinsic homosexuality is.
Like they’re making some great concession for homosexuals or whatever.
I’m sorry. But to love, and to have love, and receive love, and have it soak into every fibre of your being, is one of the most beautiful experiences on this planet. More than that - it’s a necessity for most. It fills a hole in the heart.
So I don’t care how tolerant or kind you think you are for saying that a gay person, as a person, is not a sin. By imposing upon them ‘a call to chastity’ (yes, that’s a direct quote from the catechism) because of their sexual orientation, you are denying them the basic human need for love. And to deny someone a necessity for life because of the way they are born… why, I think that’s called discrimination.
And what’s crazy is, you ‘kind’, ‘loving’, ‘tolerant’ christians seem to think that your harmful - and in some cases life destroying - sin of prejudice is not nearly as awful as the entirely harmless ‘sin’ of homosexual love between two men, or two women.
I wonder what your god has to say about that.

I thought the first episode of Divine Women - a BBC documentary about goddesses - was very good indeed and worth watching if you are a pagan or interested in history. It was on BBC 2 yesterday at 9pm, but you can still watch it on BBC iPlayer. In the first episode, called Divine Women - When God Was a Girl, historian Bettany Hughes looked at the world’s most ancient civilisations and found that rather than worshipping male gods, most worshipped goddesses or at least revered women. Bettany argued that these fertility goddesses were often supplanted by male gods of battle as society became more warlike. This is quite a controversial subject, but I thought it was handled extremely well in the documentary.

So Demeter and Hekate are rightly pissed off as all hell and come after her to rescue her, Hades sets up an impregnable bulwark of powerful male gods (i.e. Zeus and himself. Apollodorus and Homer actually implicate Zeus as the one who GAVE Kore to Hades… she is his daughter, btw, so he gave his daughter up to be raped) to stop Demeter from rescuing her daughter, cutting Kore off from her family and all meaningful support systems and keeping her imprisoned.
When Demeter sees she has no chance in hell of getting the Original Patriarchy Club to give a flying fuck about women’s bodily autonomy, rights, or freedom, she does about the only thing she CAN do, and starves the entire freaking world until Zeus has no choice but to cave because she did what any canny general would do, and attacked his supply lines. He orders Hades to give Kore up, and sends Hermes with the message - from Homer, we get Hermes’ distinct observation that Kore was extremely unhappy when he found her. But even on the edge of freedom, Hades manages to trick Kore into unconsciously making a magical bargain by taking part of the Underworld into herself, eating pomegranate seeds. Now that she’s eaten the food of the Underworld, Hades can finagle the ancient laws so she’s forced to stay with him a third of the year, even though she can return topside the other two-thirds. She and Demeter spend time together, grief, and love one another, and then Hekate comes over and pledges to be Kore’s companion, so at least she won’t be alone in the Underworld in the hands of her raping, kidnapping ‘husband’.
The myths say that when on earth, Kore is bright, brilliant, kind, and sweet. But in the Underworld she becomes Persephone, dire queen of the Dead, cold, cruel, and implacable. Gee, I wonder if that might be because of the abusive, coercive situation she’s living under.

I think I have to say this again, because I’m getting so sick of these notes saying terrible things like this. The original myth held that Persephone chose to become queen of the underworld with hades. The rape was added to the story long after the initial story. It was added to exemplify the ideal of male power that was storming Greece at the time. The original story had her falling in love with Hades and choosing to remain in the underworld, also taking part in the planning of her eating the pomegranate seeds, so that her mother would not be able to keep her away from Hades. The original myth had no rape in it. When they saw each other, it was said that they saw how much the other’s characteristics where missing from their lives. So please stop perpetuating the concept that this story is an ugly one. It’s not. I have read it. And I have no “heavy rape-culture baggage”. The catholic church could open one of their gold vaults, with money and gold stacked as far as the eye can see and they could help every single poor person in the world. They could totally eliminate poverty forever. The cost to them would be equivalent to a tenth of a penny when compared to an average person. This will never happen because they are selfish. The helpless, poor, sick, needy, homeless, poverty-stricken, suffering, uneducated, and downtrodden people (especially of third-world nations) are easily exploitable and give the church the power of the majority. Helping these poor people just enough to keep most of them breathing, raises the church up in a false light as the church steps on their heads. Without all that human misery and suffering, the church would become less important and needed. The church would have less power and no cheap public relation tools. They wouldn’t have anything to make people turn their head, close their eyes and plug their ears of all the extreme church wrong-doings, injustices, atrocities and their true motives would come to light. Without poverty, there would be one less big arguing point of the church’s relevance in our new day and age.

HOMOSEXUALITY: Why God DOES cares about the biological gender of those in a romantic relationship.
I think that one of the issues that used to plague me the most about opposition to homosexuality in Christianity, and gay marriage was that I saw “love as love”, regardless of the genders involved. When people would bring up other examples like pedophilia, adultery, or other dynamics where those involved may feel “love” regardless of the fact that it was indisputably immoral, I would not buy that. I would not buy it because I identified OTHER issues that made this dynamic immoral, such as inability to consent or the offense to a third-party member. I could not find anything that I identified as immoral in a consenting monogamous homosexual relationship.
While attending a small conservative high school, I would get in arguments with people over this issue often. I hate conflict, but when something flies in the fact of one of my values I become uncharacteristically determined to make my point (classic INFP). And the truth is, I ended up changing a lot of people’s mind. My class become known as “the one to never bring up homosexuality around, because all the girls would go into attack mode”. Every time it came up in a class setting, the teacher would preface it with “I know you guys are gonna give me a lot of slack for this, but..”. And this was because of me. And honestly, I didn’t feel guilty about it. I felt like I was doing them a favor, setting them free from their archaic biases. I would watch pro-homosexual documentaries about this issue on my weekends (I’ve seen them all). I was well aware that the bible had those hand full of verses against homosexuality, but I would just tell myself (without accepting it truly) that they were incorrectly interpreted. I read up on gay-revisionist interpretation of the bible, and it seemed to give me enough room to believe that the way I chose to believe was okay. Really,I was just searching out a interpretation that fit my own homosexual identity I had felt since in differing capacities childhood. Now I don’t want to blab on about myself, but I wanted to make it clear why this is important to me. I still struggle with this, and I know how hard it can be. But I believe that the truth is what empowers us. So I wanted to take a different stance, without using any of the verses that talk against homosexuality that Christians tend to us. Instead, I want to emphasis why I believe that gender is something God takes more seriously than I did. Which is why I believe God does not permit or bless same-sex marriages or relationships.
I now realize the reason why I didn’t see what was possibly wrong with homosexuality, is that I did not realize how important gender is to God.

A man or a man, a woman or a woman, a woman or a man. I saw it all as the same, and I couldn’t fathom why it would matter. And this, I know realize, is because I saw gender as arbitrary in a relationship.
Maybe because it is.

The first thing I did wrong was assume that my culturally influenced, limited, human, judgement was somehow automatically the same as a holy God. So please, if your objections are centered around why YOU think that gender shouldn’t matter, IF you are a Christian just stop yourself right there.

One of the arguments from pro-homosexual Christians is that sexual orientation (preference for said gender) was not a reality in biblical times.
That argument sucks, but so does yours, so.
So when they talk about a man and a woman being the standard for marriage, they assert that is is not a prescriptive model, but just a sign of the times the bible was written in. So yes, they say man and women because that is what was normal back then, but that doesn’t mean it is limited to that. Can I ask you where on earth you think you have the ability to assume this? There is not one sign the bible offers that even alludes to the idea that God finds gender to be a unimportant variable in relationships.
As illogical as their argument is, you’ve completely missed the flaw in it and gone in an irrelevant direction.
