Yep, I agree. The denial is pretty shocking. I don’t want to be the person to go around telling people that they were in fact raped/sexually assaulted, but it’s incredible how so many people have been brainwashed by dichotomies of sexual assault to the point where they can’t recognize it when it happens to them.
Recently a man I knew as an acquaintance was accused of rape and arrested, and his name was published in the local paper (like all arrested adults). What shocked me wasn’t that he was accused- I didn’t know him enough either way to make a judgment- but how so many, even those who knew him less than I, instantly defended him by attacking the victim. It was vicious and ridiculous.
When the charges were dropped, the instant attitude was that it was a false accusation by an evil slut. Never mind that the NOPD would be too incompetent to handle a rape case if they saw it happen; obviously she must have just been conspiring. Women, you know.
Even if it was a false accusation, her reputation suffered more because of it than his ever did. She was decided guilty of perjury the second she filed the police report, and that would happen regardless of what went on.
