LOL. This happened with me as well; when my folks found out I was a feminist and that terribly unfunny “jokes” weren’t going to sway me, they switched full force to the “Catholicism isn’t sexist” mode. 

It’s pretty hilarious. I remember one article my mom sent me that was “proof” that Catholicism wasn’t sexist but instead “honored” the “natural way” that women were- it was called “Death of the Pretty,” and was about how sad it was that women were “hot” now instead of “pretty” like in the Good Old Days ®.

Strangely enough, most defenses of gross sexism in religion follow the same suit- insisting that women and men have natural gender divides (in the form of huge chasms in character that aren’t exactly explained by production of eggs and sperm). It’s almost ironic, if you think about it enough, which you probably shouldn’t.

Oh yeah. What was I saying? Religions are bullshit, that’s right. Always bending reality to fit their absurd beliefs, whether it is oppressing scientists or insisting that they have always been egalitarian and totally not the biggest contributors to institutionalized discrimination around.
